There are many ways to get involved at Randall Carr Brook Farm—whether you’re visiting for a walk, joining a workshop, volunteering your time, or simply curious to see how the farm is growing. As a community-led project, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with the land, learn new skills, and be part of what we’re creating together.

Visiting the Farm

We welcome visitors to the farm and invite you to enjoy the landscape as it develops into a thriving space for food growing, wildlife, and community activity.

Before your visit, please take time to familiarise yourself with the Countryside Code. By following its key principles, you can help protect wildlife, care for crops, and ensure the land can be enjoyed responsibly by everyone. Simple actions—such as keeping dogs under control, sticking to paths, and being mindful of sensitive habitats—make a real difference.

Unfenced areas of the site are open to the public at all times. Food production areas sit behind deer fencing and are accessible during volunteer sessions, workshops, farm tours, and community events. The fenced area on the north side of the site is a protected wildlife zone. By walking around the north field rather than through it, you can help support vulnerable and endangered bird populations.

We encourage you to come and see what we’re creating, and to enjoy watching plants and wildlife flourish as the farm continues to grow.

Learning Opportunities

At present, we offer a mix of informal workshops and learning opportunities throughout the year, alongside our popular Tree Planting course each summer. These sessions provide practical, hands-on ways to learn about food growing, land stewardship, and working with nature.

Our learning activities allow groups to visit farms and woodlands and develop a deeper understanding of the countryside, farming, food production, and woodland management. Through guided visits and hands-on experiences, participants can see how land is cared for, how food is grown, and how woodlands are managed to support biodiversity and long-term resilience.

By encouraging people to explore the landscape, connect with wildlife, and learn about the area’s natural and cultural history, these activities also support physical activity, mental wellbeing, and a stronger sense of connection to the natural environment.

As the farm develops, we aim to expand this offer to include more structured and longer-term learning and development opportunities. Our goal is to support deeper engagement with agroecological farming and help revive land-based knowledge and practical skills within an urban and peri-urban context. Volunteering at the Farm

Volunteering at Randall Carr Brook Farm is a rewarding way to support local food growing, biodiversity, and land stewardship. No previous experience in farming, gardening, or conservation is needed—this is a welcoming place to learn. We value curiosity and enthusiasm just as much as existing skills, and we also appreciate the knowledge and experience that volunteers bring with them.

There are lots of ways to get involved throughout the year. During the growing season, regular volunteering sessions may include planting, weeding, harvesting, and general land care. Tree planting and tree care take place across much of the year, while spring and summer often bring opportunities to support wildlife monitoring and habitat work. Autumn activities focus on harvesting, seed saving, and preparing the land for winter. We also welcome help at community events and special projects as they arise.

If you’re not sure where to start, you’re very welcome to join our regular open gardening sessions. These relaxed, drop-in sessions are a great way to get to know the farm, meet others, and discover which activities you enjoy most.
